The location of Bradford North, curling around the eastern side of the city of Bradford, belies its name. The seat contains the community of Idle, famous for its 'Idle Working Men's Club'. The inner-city parts of the constituency house significant Asian populations with strong Labour loyalties. To the north and east, voting patterns become more mixed with areas of both Conservative and Liberal Democrat strength. Held by Labour by a moderate majority, at the last election the seat could be viewed as just marginal if the Conservatives were in the ascendant. As things stand, Labour should hold with no problems.
