Bradford South is the Bradford seat with the fewest Asian voters and the most council housing. More suburban areas on the higher land that looks down on Bradford's city centre are more mixed, with some Conservative areas. Although Bradford South saw some very small Labour majorities in the 1980s, the Conservatives were held at bay. Having failed to break through in the hey-day of Margaret Thatcher's premiership, the Conservatives are not going to win in 1997.
