Located in the heart of the county of Essex, the town of Braintree itself is fairly marginal. However, the surrounding prosperous villages and small towns swing things decisively in favour of the Conservatives. Essex has swung heavily towards the Tories in the past 20 years, and the vote has now moved out of Labour's reach in any circumstance short of a meltdown of the Conservative vote.
