Brent South is one of the few constituencies where the white residents are in a minority. Around a quarter of the electorate is Afro-Caribbean and a quarter is Asian. In the east of the seat are many areas with serious social problems and poor housing conditions. Things improve towards the west, where both Conservatives and Liberal Democrats enjoy some electoral success, but overall this is one of Labour's safe London seats.
