There are no boundary changes to muddy the waters in the borough of Bury in northern Greater Manchester. Bury North is the safer of the two marginal Conservative seats there. The MP Alastair Burt has become well established in North, and won by nearly 5,000 in 1992.
North contains most of the town of Bury itself, plus some smaller communities which may have started their life as textile and manufacturing communities, but which have become popular commuting bases for Manchester and other parts - Ramsbottom would be a good example of this. The result is that Bury North may be a harder nut to crack than it at first sight seems. It ranks 54th on Labour's target list.
