Croydon Central contains quite a cross section of electors with poorer town centre neighbourhoods and affluent suburban areas, as well as peripheral council estates. However, Labour's traditional strength in the latter has been eroded by creeping owner-occupation. The balance here swings strongly in favour of the Conservatives, for whom this should be a safe seat.
