The former constituency of Lancaster was a fairly key Conservative marginal and a target seat for Labour, but the Boundary Commission has wrought irreparable damage to Labour's hopes here. Out goes Labour's strongest area within Preston, and in come more numerous and prosperous Conservative-voting electors from the more rural area to the west. The new seat of Lancaster and Wyre is now safely Conservative.
