The successor to the North Kent seat of Faversham, which was held by Labour from 1945 to 1970, this now seems well beyond their grasp. The growth of owner-occupation in the area tilted the area firmly towards the Tories in the 1980s and, although there are solid pockets of Labour support and some Lib Dem wards, it seems improbable that Conservative Sir Roger Moate should face any real threat.
