Rural Cheshire's Tatton constituency is named after Tatton Park, a large area of inhabited land at its centre. It always has been a Tory safe seat, but it is even more so now, with the transfer of the industrial Labour-voting town of Northwich to adjoining seat Weaver Vale. This is good news for Labour, not the Tories, as it gives Labour every chance of winning Weaver Vale. Back in Tatton, however, Neil Hamilton will undoubtedly retain a large five-figure majority, in spite of the loss of his ministerial post in 1994 following the 'cash-for-questions' revelations.
