Cheshire's new seat of Weaver Vale is not based on any one previously existing constituency. It gathers together parts of four of Cheshire's other divisions. With its separate and discordant elements - parts of solidly Conservative Eddisbury have been married to Labour Warrington South - it is not easy to call, but the five Labour wards from Tatton that have been included should easily swing the balance to Labour. Mike Hall, previously Labour MP for Warrington South, has decamped to this safer territory. It looks very much as though, even with no swing, Labour stands to win six of the 11 seats in Cheshire (there were 10 in 1992).
